Reflections on the Digital Painting Journey
Your family always said you had a talent for drawing, but it seems hard to make good money from art?
Watching others support themselves by painting — could you do it too?
Can you paint well without any foundation?
How do you practice so your effort goes in the right direction?
As a child, I drew square robots and girls who loved braided hair.
My mom looked at them and just said: "Hmm..."
But I was so proud
that I could draw a girl like that.
A family's attitude shapes how much room a child's imagination has for their future!
Starting in 2006, I worked as a visiting teacher at a fairly well-known art studio.
I've taught children's art for over a decade — students who began in elementary school are now out working in the world.
I've never believed children's art teaches pure technique;
it trains the strong heart and emotional resilience to face a harsh world.
To learn from zero, what matters most is the heart.
When new students arrive — whether elementary schoolers or kindergartners —
they often reach for a ruler to draw straight lines from day one.
That's when I tell them: start practicing now, draw your lines freehand,
and by sixth grade you'll draw perfectly straight lines without a ruler!
Usually the kids put down the shortcut tool right then,
happily practicing freehand lines. And in truth,
after a year of classes, straight lines are hardly all they can draw.
We always want to learn fast — ideally mastering it in one lesson.
But honestly, put in an extra half year and learn the fundamentals properly,
and you truly will improve at astonishing speed. How far you go depends on how many times you repeat the practice —
and of course, it helps to have a teacher beside you who can see through your weaknesses.
We are all people who love to draw, and we've taught students from preschool to adulthood.
Whatever problem you've hit, we've surely hit it too — we all got here by walking into the same walls
If you run into any problem with drawing, you're welcome to ask us!
